62. History of Shree Lakshminarayan Temple and Dhavada Mota Village

Shri Purshottam G. Dayani
– General Secretary

360 years ago, in our community, Dahya Bapa of the Shirvi family, Vibha Bapa of the Pokar family, and elders of the Gholu family came together on V.Samvat 1719 Magashar Sud 5, which was on 16-11-1662, to build the pylon of Mota Dhavda village and settle it. The current Shiva temple in the village is located next to a stream called Dhavda, which is where the village derives its name from. The descendants of Dahya Bapa of the Shirvi branch, who lived here, were called Dayani. Additionally, the elders of the Parsia family, who were cousins of the Pokar family, came from Angiya village and settled in Dhavda village.

As our Patidar community followed Satpanth Samaj after the establishment of the village, Dhavda village also followed this religion. Over time, with the inspiration of our social reformer, Elder Shri Ratanshi Khimji Khetani, the movement to build Lakshminarayan temples from village to village continued. In VS Samvat 2030, Param Pujya Sri Madhusudan Lalji Maharaj, Chairman of Sri Narayan Sarovar Jagir Trust, came to our village with the inspiration of the elders. Maharaj asked whether there was a temple of Lakshminarayan in our village or not. Our elders responded that there was no temple of Lord Lakshminarayan in our village. At that time, Maharajshree scolded our elders in strict words and together with the heads of every family of our society, took a resolution and ordered to establish a temple of Lord Shri Lakshminarayan under any circumstances.

The elders of our village consulted with each other and welcomed Maharajshree’s suggestion with unanimous consent. Pujya Maharajshree contributed Rs. 1,551 and urged the construction of the temple without delay. Maharajshree blessed the project, promising that it would go smoothly. The elders of our village, acting on Maharajshree’s orders, started working on the project the same day. However, the financial condition of the village was not good and the elders had to travel around the country to collect funds. The construction was finally completed on the 10th day of Shravan Sud, Vikram Samvat 2033, which was on Wednesday, August 24, 1977. The idols of Lord Lakshminarayan were consecrated, and Patotsav is celebrated every year on the 10th day of Shravan Sud.

On the completion of 25 years of the temple, on August 17th, 2002, Samvat 2058 Shravan Sud 10, Bhajan Santwani was performed by local artists every Monday night, according to the tradition that has been going on for 60 years. The tradition continues to this day, and every Hindu festival is celebrated throughout the year at the Lakshminarayan Temple.

Previously, our village was administered by wise elders. However, due to the need for structural reforms in the administration, the formation of the president and the executive began in 1998.
