In the beginning, the village of Virani-nani was predominantly Piranapanthi. The residents conducted marriage and posthumous rituals in accordance with the Pirana Satpanth religion. However, the Surani (Bhagat) family was the first to renounce Satpanth and embrace a different faith. The first cremation in the village was that of Mulji Keshara Surani (Bhagat). Gradually, other families also abandoned Pirana Satpanth and joined the society of other communities in the village. In 1963 AD, Navratri Garbi was established and after some years, a temple of Lord Shankar was built.
All the immovable property in the village, such as land, Samajwadi, and verandah, was jointly occupied by the Kadwa Patidar community. The registration of this property took place in 1962 when the “Kadwa Patidar Samaj – Village Virani Nani” was nominated. At that time, everyone lived together. However, after some years, the “Sri Lakshminarayan Sanatni Samaj” was formed in AD 1998, and Pirana believers formed another Satpanth Samaj.
In 1994, Piranapanthis transferred the property of the Kadwa Patidar Samaj to the Deputy Charity Office Bhuj in the name of Satpanth Jyotidham Mandir. They planted custard apple seeds in the village, but the Sanat brothers began to suspect something dark was happening when they noticed a change in the behavior of the Satpanthi brothers. In 1998, the Sanatani brothers demanded to see the registration copy of the property. Magan Dana Bhagat went to get the copy, but when he returned, he showed a waste of paper instead of the original copy. When Sanat’s brothers obtained the copy from Naib Charity Bhuj, they discovered the real work of Satpanthi. The seeds of Kusamp, which were seedlings, now began to take the form of a fight.
A meeting was fixed to discuss and settle this issue, but nobody attended from Satpanthi’s side. Finally, in 1999, Sanat’s brothers filed a case in the Rajkot Charity Commissioner for justice. On 20/02/2002, Hon’ble Charity Commissioner Chairman Saheb ordered the transfer of the property altered in 1994 to the trust formed in 1962, “Kadwa Patidar Samaj.” However, Satpanthi and Bhuj did not accept this order and went on to appeal to the District Court. As a result, court cases continued.
In August of the same year, the Sanatani brothers celebrated the 25-year silver jubilee festival of Virani Nani’s Koteshwar Mahadev temple. The Satpanthis were excluded from the celebration and only the Sanatan Samaj celebrated the occasion with pomp. In retaliation, the Satpanthis filed a defamation case against Sanatan Samaj president Naran Nanji Vasani and Koteshwar Mandir Samiti president Karsan Kanji Vasani in the Mandvi Taluka Court. Seven other Satpanthis also filed false cases against other Santanis in different taluka courts, leading to a total of 12 Santhanists being falsely charged. The harassment continued.
A few years ago, the Satpanthis took a wrong resolution from the Gram Panchayat and started reforming the Patidar Samajwadi. They removed the tubes and put up the sheets. While they were working, they kept the brothers of the Dalit community as watchmen to prevent members of the Sanatan Samaj from protesting. In a room of the Samaj Wadi, a Sanatan Yuvak threw the Navratri belongings of Mitra Mandal outside on the road. The brothers and sisters of the Dalit society were watchmen, and no one dared to protest for fear of retaliation. A Satpanthi from Navratri Mandal quietly brought back the goods of the Youth Mandal from his brother’s house.
Currently, Santanis has also filed a case against Batta Sama, and the friction over the property of the Kadwa Patidar society continues. Sometimes, the opposite party succeeds in breaking the unity of Sanat by fooling young brothers, while other times, they fail. However, the unity of Sanatani is very strong, and they act in anticipation of good and true results.
