54. The Sanatani History of Khombhadi Village

Sanatani CA Shri Ramanikbhai (Rameshbhai) Mavjibhai Vagadiya
– Bengaluru

On May 16, 1946, which was Vaisakh Sud Poonam Dinak of Samvat 2002, our Ishtadev Bhagwan Shri Lakshminarayana arrived in the form of a pan idol in Khombhadi village. At that time, some of our elders were against following Satpanth in our community. However, despite facing opposition, our elders worked hard to re-create the path of our original Sanatan Hinduism in our community. They achieved this by building a temple with mature idols of Lord Shri Lakshminarayan, which was no small feat.

After 25 years of establishing the Pan Murthy temple (old temple) in the village, we finally have a temple with mature idols of Lord Shri Lakshminarayan. It is worth noting that this accomplishment was achieved despite facing strong opposition from some of our community elders.

Shri Narayan Shivji Wagdia, an elder and reformer from Khombhadi village, was introduced to the first reformers of our community – Shri Narayanji Ramji Limbani and Shri Ratanshi Khimji Khetani. Since then, he paid homage to the Pirana Satpanth religion established by Imamshah Bawa, which separated our community from Hinduism. During the Sanat movement in Mumbai, Elder Shri Narayan Shivji Bajgriya had several meetings with both elders. Together with another Sanat elder from Khombhadi, Shri Madhavji Bhimji Bhagat, they made great efforts to challenge the Pirana Satpanth ideology in Khombhadi village and strengthen the Sanat ideology. Their Sanat ideology was so strong that both of them were members of the first executive committee of the Central Sanat Samaj during the establishment of the Kuldevi Umiya Mataji Temple in Bandhai in 1944. At that time, in Khombhadi village, these two elders raised their voices against the Satapathi ideology of the Khana Panthis.

During that time, it was extremely difficult and dangerous to speak out against Satpanth. Despite facing numerous challenges, such as being expelled from the Khana Panthis and losing ties and connections with his community, he was able to establish the ideology of Sanat successfully in the village of Khombhadi. He did not lose hope, even after being outcast for eighteen years. Most people would have given up under such pressure, but he remained steadfast. During that time, only three other families supported the ideology of Sanat in the entire village of Khombhadi. These families were Madhavji Bhimji Bhagat’s family, Jetha Bapa Ukani’s family (i.e., Dr. Gangdas Bapa Ukani’s family), and Muljibhai Shivji Vasani’s family. These families endured the harsh consequences of fatwas such as Naat Bahar from Satpanth Samaj for 18 years.

On the second day of the temple inauguration with idols, around 80-90 households from the sects joined the Shri Khombhadi Patidar Sanatan Samaj, leaving their previous sects. The credit for this goes mainly to Shri Ratanshi Khimji Khetani of Virani and Shri Ladharam Bapa Ravani (Hat Wala) of Khombhadi village. Ratanshi Khimji Khetani was the founder president of Kutch Kadwa Patidar Sanatan Samaj (Central Society) at that time, and Ladharam Bapa Hat Wala was a Sahukar Grahastha of Khombhadi village, who had a big business in Delhi. After that, almost all the brothers, except a few, broke away from the Satpanth Samaj of Khombdi, renounced the Pirana Satpanth Dharma forever, and re-accepted their original Sanatan Hinduism, merging into the Sanatan Samaj.

Today, only a few families remain in the Satpanth society, but the Sanat brothers of the village have a firm determination that all the Khana brothers of Khombhadi village will merge into the Sanatan Samaj. They believe that all the property of the Khana, which originally belonged to the entire village, will one day remain with the Sanatan Samaj. Ultimately, the truth remains the truth.

Shri Narayan Shivji Bajriya, the first Sanat elder of the village, had a dream of building a temple for Lord Shri Lakshminarayan in the village of Khombhadi. He wished to establish a pan murthy of Lord Shri Lakshminarayan in it. Unfortunately, his wish could not be fulfilled in his lifetime, but his unfinished work was completed by Elder Shri Madhavji Bhimji, Elder Shri Mulji Shivji Vasani, Dr. Gangdas Ukani, Elder Shri Jetha Bapa Ukani, Elder Shri Meghji Shivji Wagdia, and Elder Shri Ratanshi Naran Bajriya. When the temple was finally established on 16.05.1946 of Samvat 2002, the body of Shri Naran Shivji Vagadia, the founder president of Shri Khombhadi Patidar Sanatan Samaj, had dissolved into the Panch Mahabhut.

In the new temple Sri Lakshminarayan Bhagwan’s Prana Pretishta AD 1970 B.S. 2026:

On 19-Apr-1970, Sri Khombhadi Patidar Sanatan Samaj inaugurated a new temple in Khombhadi village and consecrated the idols of our Ishtadev, Bhagwan Shri Lakshminarayana, with great fanfare. This newly established Pran Pratishtha Juna Mandir, also known as the Paan Murthy Temple, was founded exactly 25 years after its predecessor. In light of this momentous occasion, the diamond jubilee of the old temple and of Shree Khombhadi Patidar Sanatan Samaj, as well as the golden jubilee of the new temple, will be celebrated by all Sanatani brothers of Khombhadi village from 01 to 04 May 2023.
