53. Modasa's newly built Umiya Mata temple became the center of Sanatan consciousness

Shri Vasantbhai Rajabhai Limbani
– Modasa

In 1962, 72 Kampas from Modasa division and their community brothers living in Modasa town established the Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Pragati Mandal. The group organized various social activities and built the Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Samaj Wadi at Modasa, which was used to celebrate social and religious events.

During the period of 1975-78, almost 40 families residing in Modasa town were forbidden from using the Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Samaj Modasa Divisional Samaj for social or religious events. In response, the brothers of Pragati Mandal living in the city organized two shows of the play “Paisani Sagai” in 1982 to raise funds for the Samajwadi located on Meghraj Road. The funds collected amounted to Rs. 2,01,111/-, which were used to purchase land that was then registered in the name of Pragati Mandal on a stamp paper.

However, some friends of the Mandal opposed this move and demanded that the land be deeded in the name of the departmental society instead. This resulted in a dispute, and the name of Pragati Mandal was eventually removed from the document. As a result, the purchased land became useless. In addition to this, K. P. Vidharthi Bhawan, Girls’ Hostel, and H.L. Patel Saraswati Vidyalaya, which were managed by Sri Uma Kelavani Mandal, were also established.

Later, the Pragati Mandal purchased a new land on the same road under the name “Shri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Pragati Mandal – Umiya Chowk”. At the same time, negotiations for the old land were underway, which were settled on June 3, 1997. As per the agreement, a temple for Kuldevi Shri Umiya Mataji, a Shiv Mandir and a Bhojan Wadi were to be built on that land with the cooperation of all. To administer it, a constitution was formed and the Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Samaj Trust was established, which included 8 members of Pragati Mandal, 3 members of the Divisional Samaj and 1 member, Shri Naranbhai Vishrambhai Patel – Anandpura Kampawala. The foundation stone was laid with great fanfare on May 7, 1999. The date of prana pratistha of the temple was decided to be on February 8 and 10, 2006. However, the Satpanthis’ greed caused controversy as they simultaneously gave membership forms to a large number of Satpanthi members in the trust. The administration-hungry Satpanthis were trying to remove the 8+3 member clause from the constitution and filed cases in court, resulting in the closure of the prestige festival. The idols were then placed in the house of Vasantbhai Rajabhai Limbani.

The Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Sanatan Samaj Modasa Division was established in 2006 by the brothers of 72 Kampa Sanatan. Mr. Khimjibhai Arjanbhai Dholo was appointed as its president. Punambhai Khimjibhai Dholu Madasana Company – Trust Minister Dahyabhai Jivarajbhai Gorani and Vasantbhai Rajabhai Limbani were given the authority to take action, and it was decided to work together.

On April 14, 2006, Geetaba Gadhvi placed the pan idol of Sri Umiya Mataji in the temple and began serving daily Seva Pooja to all Sanat elders and youths. In 2012, Pragati Mandal’s president, Vasantbhai Rajabhai Limbani, called a general meeting in which 54 Satpanthi members who had cooperated in preventing Umiya Mataji’s reputation and filed false petitions against the interests of Pragati Mandal in the court and society were simultaneously removed. As a result, Pragati Mandal became a complete Sanat.

The Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Sanatan Samaj Modasa Department held its first Sneha Milan event on May 20, 2007, on the premises of Sri Umiya Mataji temple where a large gathering was present. On January 24 and 25, 2009, the Sri Kutch Kadwa Patidar Sanatan Samaj Modasa Division and Pragati Mandal organized the Rath of Lord Sri Lakshminarayan from Kutch Sanskar Dham. The Satpanthis tried to stop the chariot from entering the compound of Umiya Mataji temple by making applications to the police department, but the procession was carried out with the cooperation of Sanatans from Modasa city and surrounding areas along with members of Central Samaj – Yuva Sangh, Dhansura, Dehgam, Himatnagar, Wadali, Amirgarh Sanatan Samaj. A long procession was taken out, and Keshario was waved throughout the city for 4 km from Lord Sri Lakshminarayana in Modasa town. Then, a huge meeting was held, and everyone took Mahaprasad with the oath of Sanat.

The incident of removing the Satpanth members from the Pragati Mandal of Modasa and becoming a clean Sanatan Samaj sparked Sanatan Dharma awareness meetings all over the country. The Modasa Umiya Mataji Mandir dispute did a great job of bringing out eternal consciousness among the community people. As a result, the constituent societies of Talod, Vadagam, Dhansura, Baid, Himatnagar, Eder, etc. in this area followed the white paper and adopted the form of Sanatan Samaj and added the word Sanatan to the name of the society, appreciating the community approach.
